Journey through the stars

Journey through the Stars  (a poem for Norm)

On this gently pulsing deck I lie,
gazing down into
the infinite depths
GHJKJHGFDSASDFGHJKLKJHGFDSASDFGHJKl.jpgof a night sky.
For every star in our galaxy
is reflected on a polished sea.
Stars above
stars below
all sense of earth is disappearing.
Life is a space journey -
anyone steering ?

Lost in the Forest

Lost in the rain forest written by Sonya Stoneman is a about the story about a plane crash close by a village in the forest. The main character’s were Jade and Matthew.

Matthew and Jade were in a plane and something went wrong with the engine. When Jade and Matthew looked outside, they saw the engine on fire. Jade and Matthew went out of the plane. They saw that everyone was dead, so they left. Jade and Matthew went to a river, they thought that they will follow the river in hope of finding a village.

When Matthew went to follow the river, he saw a broken branch from a big tree that was lying across the river. Jade and Matthew went on to the branch and walked over it and across the river. At the end of the river Matthew and jade stopped for some berries at the toucans.the river had stopped, they stopped for some berries from the toucans.

They moved further into the forest. Jade and Matthew were completely lost. They went straight ahead through the jungle. Finally they saw a village. Next Matthew asked the village man for shelter and for some food . Matthew used hand signals like rubbing his tummy and touching his mouth.

Later on, they went to play with the kids and the animals close by to the village. Jade and Matthew’s Dad went to look for there kids. Dad saw the smoke coming from the forest and went to the kids at the village. Dad came with a rescue party and took the kids back home.

A Natural Actor

A Natural Actor By David Hill

A Natural Actor by David Hill is about a boy and a girl. The girl and boy’s  name’s were Tanya and Chad Finlay. Tanya and Chad Finlay were in the hall do a funny act.

Tanya had a rumbling stomach and went to eat a sandwich. She ate two coconut biscuits but she ate it too fast. Then she started to get hiccups.
Tanya finished her act and when she went past Ms. Yee's room, the Rm 18’s teacher said, "Well done on your act Tanya”.

When Tanya was on stage she was licking a lolly fume and start sneezing. Then she started sneezing and everyone in the hall began laughing at their act because it was so funny and that’s how they solved the problem. After that Chad Finlay gave Tanya a huge smile.

I liked this story because it was funny and it was interesting.

The Big Game

The Big Game

This story is about the children and their  mum going to the big rugby game. Mum wished there were more games in their small town so the children could do more chores at home for her.

The game had been advertised on the radio for weeks. Even mum heard about it.
When the game was on, mum and the kids went to the big game and watched Shane their favorite player  even though he played for the other team.

Mum and the kids cheered louder than anyone. When the game was over, Shane came straight to mum and gave his autograph to her.

8 Facts About Earthquakes

  • Earthquakes happen every day in New Zealand.
  • Instruments record the ground shaking from over 14,000 earthquakes in and around the country each year.
  • Most are too small to be noticed, but between 150 and 200 are big enough to be felt.
  • Earthquakes are most frequent in regions where two moving plates meet and press against each other.
  • New Zealand is in such a region – it straddles the boundary between the Pacific Plate, which covers almost a quarter of the earth’s surface, and the Australian Plate.
  • Earthquakes usually occur along faults, which are existing fractures in the crust. Sometimes the blocks of rock on either side of a fault abruptly shift to a new position in just a few seconds.
  • This sudden release of energy sends out waves, which are felt on the surface as an earthquake.
  • The strength of the quake depends on the area of fault that has shifted and the amount of movement.

Three Boys On the Wall

Three Boys On the Wall

The Three Boys are on the brick wall because they are trying to camouflage themselves so no one can find them. I think that, they have been glued on the wall because, they might of did it on accident or they might be a statue. I think that they might be running away from the police.

I think that they stole some brick clothes and they might saw a brick wall and their clothes are brick too so they can camouflage themselves. They might of got some paint from the paint shop so they can paint themselves of brick.

When I saw them I thought that they was statue’s but they were real life people trying to disguise themselves. But if they are hiding from the cop’s, they can not run away from the police because the police dog’s can hunt them down.

If they were police, they would not be camouflaging themselves, because they would not steal and won’t be stealing clothes.

How Waves are made

How are waves made

1. The swell and surf forecasts are a result of scientific studies and weather prediction models.

2. Waves are mainly a product of the wind.

3. The best waves for surfing are the result of the interaction of winds on the surface of the ocean, far away from the coast.

4. Wind is the first step in the formation of surf able waves.

5. Local shore winds can also produce waves, but they can also destroy the quality of the breaking waves.

6. Onshore winds are typically known for creating choppy and bumpy waves because their effect is added to the direction of the wave.

7.In a way, offshore winds are a sort of a counterbalance.

8.Swell comes from miles away and the ground wind works as a "pause-hold" effect on the wave face, allowing longer unbreakable waves.

9.In theory, low pressure systems are responsible for creating good and strong waves.

10.In deep low pressure systems, wind speed is greater and more waves are generated by the power of the gusts.
How is a wave formed: wind is the source of the surf
